The below images are what can happen if the u-bolts on your trailer break! I have never thought to check mine but I will from now on! I was coming back from Millers Ferry running about 60 mph when the bolt broke letting the rear axle move towards the rear. This caused the tire to shred against the fender. The tire slapping the fender is what caused the fender to wad up against the boat! If you have an older boat like I do (1996 model) I would suggest replacing them. I think I replaced all of mine for less than 30 bucks!
